Any advised in that thread.

5W-30, 10W-30, or 10W-40, whether you use ordinary or semi-synth is down to personal choice, but the general view seems to be that if using semi-synth it's safe to stretch the change interval a fair bit.

So to sum up - there is no "correct" answer as oil specs have changed a lot since the original spec was set 15 years ago.

The subject of oil and tyre can be some what of an emotive subject, every one has there own preference, I used 15/40 in my bongo with no problems at all, this was after speaking to a mechanic, he did not go as far to say oil is oil, but did say too much emphasis is put on what the manufacturers recommend, he did say older engines with a few miles (50000 + ) on them would thrive on 15/40 as opposed to 10/40 and semi synthetic is a waste of money.

Just my personal thoughts.

Same as you Nick.
I have used 15/40 Turbo Diesel oil from Wilkinsons on my Genuine :!: 80000 KM M reg for the past 3 years .
Priced at £8-49 for 5 gallons :D it has served me well.
I get two full oil changes and a bit spare for the price of £25-50 ish
