Harris Ferry ate my dangly fog light

We were touring up through the outer Hebrides last week, and the ferry from Berneray to Harris (and it's steep slip way) munched off my pathetic dangling rear fog light. An accident waiting to happen. I have thought before about replacing it with the flush fog cut into the bumper, but with the tow bar and body kit, there does not appear to be much space left for it. (plus i would rather not cut the bumper if I could avoid it)
Am I right in thinking that some folks have wired the fog to the drivers side reversing light and fitted a red bulb to provide a fog light? If so is that ok for MOT testing etc... Do you have any pointers with the bulb spec etc if this is an option?
I have read back through the posts from about Feb, but I was unable to work out a definative answer as to the legality or the exact spec.
Can anybody help me with some info before I make a total arse of myself, and ask our friendly Bongo mechanic to do something daft?
Ps I will post a few bongo picks from our trip.... which in the words of Wee Jimmy Crankie was....Fa.... No sorry cant bring myself to stoop that low
Thanks in advance
David
