Harris Ferry ate my dangly fog light

We were touring up through the outer Hebrides last week, and the ferry from Berneray to Harris (and it's steep slip way) munched off my pathetic dangling rear fog light. An accident waiting to happen. I have thought before about replacing it with the flush fog cut into the bumper, but with the tow bar and body kit, there does not appear to be much space left for it. (plus i would rather not cut the bumper if I could avoid it)

Am I right in thinking that some folks have wired the fog to the drivers side reversing light and fitted a red bulb to provide a fog light? If so is that ok for MOT testing etc... Do you have any pointers with the bulb spec etc if this is an option?

I have read back through the posts from about Feb, but I was unable to work out a definative answer as to the legality or the exact spec.

Can anybody help me with some info before I make a total arse of myself, and ask our friendly Bongo mechanic to do something daft?

Ps I will post a few bongo picks from our trip.... which in the words of Wee Jimmy Crankie was....Fa.... No sorry cant bring myself to stoop that low :D

Thanks in advance

David

In between the brake light and the reversing light in the light cluster is a blank space, fit a bulb holder in that space for your fog light. dead easy to fit.

I used the offside Reversing light with a red led bulb..... no worries at MOT...passed no probs.....I still have the nearside reverse light.....

Many thanks for the above...looks like we should be able to avoid any cutting!

David, I think that you were just unlucky with the tides. I had no trouble with the Berneray to Harris ferry, the slipway did not seem to be very steep to me. But I had a lot of trouble with the Barra to Eraskay ferry as the Eraskay slipway did seem to be very steep to me and the Bak Rak I had on at the time scrapped the slipway on leaving the ferry. It must be the difference between high and low tides.

The tide was about mid way out, but the ramp had a bit of a step down to the edge. No probs on the Eraskay slip though. Are you sure you didn't have a couple of cases of salvaged whiskey in the back box Tony?

All the best

David

ps Any luck with the cruise control?

Taking whisky to Eriskay David is a bit like taking coals to Newcastle. Better shut up or I will let out where my secret stash of SS Politician whisky is located.
