Just to clarify - where do I hit the Bongo?

My Bongo passenger door is jammed - which seems to be a common complaint. Literally 2 days from sale, and just after my partner commented how reliable the vehicle was - typical.

Anyway - I need to clarify - a number of posts say if you thump the door you can get it to open. Can someone describe where exactly to thump it? I've seen Bottom Rear Quarter mentioned a couple of times. Is this inside the vehicle, on the left and bottom of the door as you look at it? And when people say thump - do they mean like tap, or belt with all your strength?

Also - I was a member of the Bongo club, but I let it lapse as I sadly have to sell the Bongo (finally moved abroad, can't get it converted) - can someone tell me - does the "Sliding Door FAQ" tell me how to fix this problem? I'm willing to pay the membership just to get the factsheet - but only if it covers this issue. Could a member check for me?

I really, really want to thump it first. I know nothing about cars, and my first instinct when a car goes wrong has always been to want to kick the seven shades of cow poop out of it - and now, for the first time I appear to have a legitimate, technical reason for doing so!

But OK. Disconnecting battery.... battery is the battery like thing in the engine compartment. I think I'd know it if I saw it. How do I unscrew the wires on it without giving myself an electric shock? It's the red one that's dangerous right?

MY DAD WAS A BIOLOGIST HE DIDN'T TEACH ME ANY OF THIS STUFF!

You need a branch from a Birch tree and beat the bonnet while doing a silly walk.

Hi
Full members can take advantage of the discount on a B.S.K. , or Bongo Slapping Kit...a kind of glove arrangement to prevent reddened hands incurred in Bongo Slapping. Included in the kit is an adaptor similar to "Brass Knuckles", enabling the wearer to beat seven bells out of a stuck starter, in the unlikely event that it will free it up...However,It does help reduce stress, and the aim of Bongo Ownership is getting away from it all, thus reducing stress
Cheers
Helen

You want to hit it from inside the Bongo. Supposedly lower rear quarter, but I had no luck there, and just gave it a good beating all round the mid/lower sliding door area, till it worked. And yes, pretty hard thumping (or medium force kicking).

"Don't tickle it"

EDIT: Membership - buy it anyway, it's less that the price of a Haynes MAnual (not that there's a Bongo one) and 10 times more useful.

Yes! YES!

That was the best mechanical problem I have ever fixed!

I took the door fascia off, played with the rods, sprayed WD40 everywhere, identified the critical mechanism and kicked the living daylights out of it. For those wondering I used the same force I would if I met Nick Griffin in a dark alleyway.

One bang! later, and the door opens and closes - although the electric "click whirr" noise doesn't happen every time any more. No problem. I'm actually hoping it breaks again as fixing it was so fun.
