Bongo Fury

Hello

Whilst travelling through northern Greece recently, my fuel pump died and spewed fuel all over the shop. I had to get it rebuilt at a Bosch diesel specialists, but after they replaced it, the hold light started flashing regularly (one flash for about 1 second, then off for about 1 second). I tried a couple of things that people have told me, namely disconnecting the battery for 3 minutes, then reconnecting. (did this with one terminal disconnected, then both terminals disconnected). After more discussion with people, I tried the following (with one terminal and again with both terminals):-
Disconnect the battery
Stab down on the Brake pedal
leave for 2 minutes
Reconnect the battery
Start engine and leave to idle for 3 mnutes.

Neither of these got rid of the flashing hold light.
I now have no 'hold' function, and the gear box does not ' kick down', so acceleration is slow and gear change is at low revs giving apparent low power going up long hills etc. I now have to manually change down to 'S' to get acceleration when needed. Since I live in Exeter, Devon, this will cause me grief.
Since the light is flashing regularly as opposed to a code, I don't think it's a gearbox problem, but I can't see anything left undone by the fuel pump repair

the hold light will flash regularly unless you short the diagnostics terminal correctly to force it to give the code

This is in the fact sheet in the members area

I would guess that a wire is not connected after the work or something got damaged during the work

first step is to get the fault code and see what it says

Could Allans in Plymouth help as they are v. good with Bongos?

Hiya I had this problem after having my fuel pump tinkered with. it turned out that the TPS had been moved. it sits beneath the cowling on the drivers side aft of the gear lever and you adjust it with a screwdriver. i don't know if anyone else on here has a pic of it or what. if not I will take one and post it on here later. cheers

How do I find the fact sheets mentioned above - all I can find are a few about reversing seats, etc.

does sound like a tps problem. the tps sits on top of the fuel pump and is actuated by the throttle cable. the tps provides feedback to the ecu to control the gearbox so if its not working it will appear as a gearbox problem. if you can use a multimeter you shold be able to diagnose it ok. keep us posted

Again - thanks to all who replied - after much piddling about, it turned out that the fuel pump was still defective (although cured enough to get me home from Greece). I replaced the fuel pump with a second hand one, and all is now cured.

A question for our techies now:

I'm trying to think which bit of an incorrectly rebuilt fuel pump might cause the HOLD function to stop working. Is it because it was not fuelling the engine properly so the gearbox was being informed of inadequate torque or summat?

Depends on the year of Bongo - post '99 have an electronic pump which'll have electronics to trigger the hold light - I don't know which model yer man has.

If its an earlier model then I'm stumped, the TPS rarely flashes up a hold light, but it will flash it up as a code during interrogation
