				I need advice.
Bongo (2.5 diesel 4WD) has developed as strange scraping/grating noise when reversing. (Not disimilar to a bacon slicer) Not present when in forward gears. Not easy to pinpoint but doesn't seem to be bearings or brakes. Any ideas before I go to see my friendly mechanic?

I had sticking shims on the rear pads, made a squealing when reversing, took them apart and gave them a clean (put a tad of the jolly old copper grease on the shims) with new pads and hay presto.
I also had heard crashing and scraping noise when returning fron Woodlands. On stopping for a cup of tea I turned around and reversed into the trailer, bending the bumper and smashing the rear lamp.

Welcome Gannet, I'd certainly be looking in the brake department. Good luck, and hope it' s a cheap fix.

Apply the brakes gently whilst reversing. If it goes quiet, that's the answer

All sorted. Turned out it was the rear brake pads catching on disks as suggested. Peace has returned!
