Brake Problem

Having had my Bongo for 3 months - I have noticed on occasion that the brake pedal position has altered. In recent weeks I have felt that the brakes have been binding but then releasing again the other day I noticed that all 4 brake discs were piping hot. Has anyone experienced this sort of problem? I believe it could be a problem with the master cylinder but would appreciate any guidance. Thanks a lot.

It sounds like your brake calipers could do with overhauling. Maybe the pistons are sticking and/or the sliders have seized. I've had it happen to me when a boot has split and let water in.

Check your master cylinder seals.

1. Start the engine
2. Put your foot on the brake hard, with a constant pressure
3. Hold it there for around 30 to 60 sec.
4. After the inital depression, if the pedal continues to smoothly move towards the floor, it could well mean that the primary and or secondary seal in the master has failed.
5. After the test, move the car forwards and check on the floor for puddles of fluid. Around the wheels could mean a caliper leak

Note: When depressing the pedal, feel for a notchy action. This could indicate a build up of corrosion within the master, which will cause the seals to fail.

I'm not expert but if its all 4 brakes getting hot you'd think it has to point to something at the 'master' end of the setup i.e. master cylinder, brake pedal or something before the 4-way hydraulic split. Is it possible to observe the actuating rod for the master cylinder piston to check if it is/isn't returning fully after pedal is pressed?
