Bongo Fury

Hi all

I've read useful previous posts on jacking points and 2tonne requirements for trolley jacks, etc, but has anyone any advice or experience about using bottle jacks on bongos, they are very modestly priced and seem very compact, stowable and have huge weight lifting ability. Any specific advice appreciated

I've got a little one and it doesnt seem to go up any distance when I pump it. My Bongo remains unmoved as a result. Nuff said!

Sounds like scanner has one big enough to make the earth move under his Bongo

I was just surprised you'd tried moving your Bongo with yours.............

Never got far enough up for that. It just stood there a good few inches short of target If I'd have pumped it any further I hate to think what might have happened

Hmm I dealt with a fatal accident once involving a bottle jack, long time ago and I know tech stuff has moved on but..guy was working under a mk11 cortina with just a bottle jack and it gave way..poor chap, never had or trusted one since and I know he should have had stands but he didnt and paid the price. I will stick to my air bag jack..superb piece of draper kit.

Yeah, I can see the logic there David, a balloon holding your car up is much safer

Lol, yea left out after...and axle stand, never work under motors without em.

Bottle jacks are notoriously unstable, I wouldn't use one.

I've (relieved) one from a Merc Sprinter at work.

More than up to the job, reccomended if you can grab one from a breakers.

Er... I carry a trolley jack...., but then I'm a wee bit safety conscious.....and I renew them (trolley jacks) every so often....There's plenty of room to carry stuff in a Bongo, so why skimp?
I once used a standard jack on a mini to change a wheel....lucky I had only undone the nuts a bit...the thread failed with a "ZZZZZZip", and the car sat on it's wheels...NEVER again.

Not at all surprised to hear this. Mine has lasted 30+ years because I never liked using it!
