Temp guage next to radiator...?

Hi people.
I am no longer a Bongo Wannabe... I have my Bongo!
There is a little temp guage fitted on the dash, which shows temperature picked up by the sensor which is currently hanging just infront of the radiator.
It has an alarm etc. on it - what kind of temperature should I be expecting?
When should I set the alarm? what temperature will Bongos overheat?
Thanks.
One happy owner.

Congratulations on your Bongo.

Afraid I'm not very Technie and most are at the Bash, but if it is a Tm2 as we have. The temp highest without towing that we have had is 105, however it is set on 120 for towing and thats fine. It has reached 116.
You need to see what it normally runs at and set it above this, however I am sure someone who knows what they are talking about

will be along, or you could do a search as this comes up often. I will look also.

Hi and welcome.
If you have a TM2 engine watchdog as Anna has, the sensor should be somewhere on the cylinder head not dangling near radiator. Therefore it is difficult to say what temperature
you should set it at. Does your normal guage sit at 11 o clock as this is normal. Some peeps have fitted a Mason alarm which makes the original gauge more sensitive and this usually sits at 1 oclock until the engine works hard and will go nearer to the red but should return to 1 oclock in normal driving. Where is Mike he has all the answers.By the way Anna where is your sensor fitted as the readings are different for exhaust side or inlet side. i have mine at the back now as that is Haydn s latest position (for the sensor). Hope all this helps.
Someone will be along soon.
Cheers Brian

Thanks Brian,
I'm not sure where it is. It was as Haydyn's instructions a few months back, but I think I read another position recommendation and forgot to check it

. However we were away the other week, towing the Eriba up some steep hill and the alarm didn't go off, so not bad at all. If it gets a better reading at the back, I will get it moved. Saves watching the gauge when it is getting high and having to ease up on the throttle

. Thanks again
Anna

Is the temp guage a little white plastic thing? If so its £5 job off ebay, I had one for a while - OK but not a TM2 etc. The sensor should be fitted onto the cylinder head. I used a jubilee clip onto one of the studs. Wouldn't rely on this type of device for temperature monitoring
Best advice is to fit a low coolant alarm and/or Mason alarm.
TM2 LCA etc are here:

And Mason alarms here:

and the ebay ones are a bit like this:

Haydn Callow will give you all the relevant info on a TM2 and supply you with one

I'll move it closer to the cylinder head as advised.
It can't really clamp it on to anything, but it's better than nothing I guess!!!
I'm just trying to hook up my iPod Classic to the LCD screen that came fitted... Adzest something or other, got audio - but no video yet.
Thanks for your comments!
