Bongo Fury

I have a rather nice set of alloys on the Bongler, but I picked up a a hoofing great bolt this evening on the way home. When I fitted the spare (mazda original) it was obvious that the rolling diameter was about 1 inch smaller than the alloys. If I run with it, will it cause diff problems? We are off to France next month so I hope someone can give me some 'elp' French see! Thank you. P.S formerly Max & Paddy but now with a decent server.

Yes the space saver, not that it matters, it's the rolling diameter thats in question!

Do you mean your gonna use the space saver for your france trip?

Youre worried that it'll cause diff problems y running a smaller wheel - and could affect the trip?

A space saver should only be used for up to 50mph and something like a maximum of 50 miles.

So it will be a slow short holiday.

If not your transmission will be.

No I'm not using it it France, but it's got to get me to the tyrebar and back in the morning. Scanner, I know what the limitations are for using the space saver, but that assumes the vehicle tyre sizes, and the space saver size are as per original spec. As stated in my original post, they're not!

Well that's not how it read and it wasn't just me that thought so.

and the answer to your question is - How far away is the tyrebar?

If it's any distance I'd take the tyre & wheel there in another car if possible.

And I'd also dump it and get a proper sized spare before setting off to the supermarket, let alone France.

I read it like that too - running through france on the space saver!

Not that I'm entirley clued up on this - Scanner; ideally should the space saver be the same size (height) as other wheels? Realise the width should be ok for a temporary measure.

The thought of using the space saver horrifies me, if it is like mine it probably has never been used, the rubber had perished and the size was all wrong.
Dump it and get a wheel and tyre the same spec as the ones you are using now, even if its just a steel wheel for now.

Welcome Bongo Brew. Whereabouts are you as some peeps on here have posted saying they have spare full size steels they don't need and wil let go to a needy home (not sure what £s involved but it won't be much). If you can get your hands on one before hte France trip it would be a good investment. Good luck getting things sorted + for the trip - Bongo, a great way to tour France

Certainly on a 4WD.

As I say, I wouldn't even have one as a spare to go to the shops.

Our Bongo is long gone, and the space saver is gone even longer. But I do recall when I took the space saver off to take it to the tip, it was the same diameter as the standard 15 inch wheel/tyre combo on our Bongo.

Surely that is what Mazda intended? Bongo Brew, is your alloy wheel tyre combo the right size?
