Does anyone know if it's a difficult/possible job to retro-fit a Limited Slip Diff to a 4wd Bongo?

Some Bongos (very few) I believe came with LSD fitted as an optional extra. Under normal use though I cannot imagine there is not much of a need for one unless you are running a really powerful engine in a 2wd Bongo driven in a spirited manner, off-road or on wet, steep and twisty roads.

LSDs are great, my brother has quite an aggressive set-up in his Glanza, a light turbo car which grips on wet roads like nothing else.

Why do you want to fit one :?:

I have a Limited Slip Differential on my V6. Good handling and great in muddy fields. It gives a four wheel type ability to a two wheel drive.

Do you really need one on a four wheel drive though? Not sure what type of differential and drive system the 4wd Bongo uses. It has a viscous coupling on the front but no info on the back.

Whatever system you have the Bongo will be limited off road by its ground clearance, low engine position and hanging engine tray and exhaust. No sump guard as well. Muddy fields will be about its safe limit.

My guess is that your best bet to find out about retro fit would be to contact someone who regularly replaces axles and differential, like Bellhill and ask them if there is any difference in replacing the two types. If not you could then retro fit.

Thanks for your comments, we're not too far from Bell Hill, sometimes stop at a fine pub very near them, and I'm seeing Allan's (Plymouth) soon, I'll ask. :D
