Silly question I think! Can I run my Bongo electric hook up,off a generator while camping?? Thanks

The noise issue is a problem--a lot of sites including the Bongo Bash at Stourport wont let you due to the constant droning
And definitely not next to Kirsty------she's just been through a very traumatic experience --- abroad somewhere

Sorry.......What I mean is,is it possible to run my electrics in the Bongo of a generator!! Not next to anyone

There was a meet a couple of weeks ago in Derbyshire, anyway the bongo at the side of us were running generator and has we have kids they kindly offered to switch it off but it was that quite there wasn’t any need to switch it off, I should of ask the make as thinking of getting one, it was a small red plastic thing if anybody knows?

Don't see why not, obviously it depends on the size of the genny & the output waveform as to what you'll be able to run.

Hi,

I asked a similar question recently, having seen a boat moored up with a genny running, the red box one you are talking about is most likely a honda EU10 or 20i. Both are extremely quiet when running. Most of the cheaper ones are not so quiet, especially the 2 stroke ones, hence the comments about noise.

What I found out was that you need to consider the output dependent upon what you intend to run, so if you want to use say a kettle, heater or microwave etc you are most likely to need one with a 2KW output, and again you cannot exceed this at any one point so you have to limit what you have on at once.

Another thing you need to think about is the output quality, namely the voltage/frequency fluctuation and any electrical noise or spikes. If you need to run sensitive things like computers, TV's etc then this must be considered and for that you need an inverter generator as this has a constant smooth output.

The honda's meet all of the above, but then the catch being they are hundreds of pounds to buy, as are similar models.

I found a lower output 2 stroke that was small, quiet etc for £65 new with warranty and delivery, but TBH when I considered the valid comments others here made it wasn't a good idea for me as I needed to draw more power than that and I may find that the spikey output could have damaged my zig unit etc.

For me running teh engine for a while every couple of days is a better idea as the cost of doing it properly via solar or a good genny is prohibitive against the amount I'd really need it.

Hope this helps but yes it's possible but many things to consider, not least any possible noise implications for those around you.

It reminds me of a thread a while back where a question was raised about water heaters, there are tons of options available, some at considerable cost, and the old addage about boiling a kettle came up, sometimes the simple solutions are the best.

Interesting isnt it as (esp the V6) is a very quiet and powerful generator. It should be possible to get 50 x more energy out of it for a given running time than from a suitcase genny. The challenge is to come up with something simple, lightweight and portable that can accept and store energy efficiently on such a 'fast charge'. I keep thinking of pumped storage (as in Dinorwig) but what would you pump? Raise the Bongo maybe Compressed air possibly? Are there batteries can accept a very fast charge?

Visions of you making the AFT waterproof and pumping water into the AFT and letting it run out thru the old air vent hole in which you have fitted a turbine to generate electricity

Either that or raising the Bongo 100ft into the air. Great for enhanced view and TV reception as well as storing potential energy.

Now, we can't carry a sufficiently strong climbing pole with us so we need hawsers and grapple hooks so the Bongo can haul itself up into a tree ir other overhanging structure. By gad, I think we're onto Something (even if we are wandering perilously off thread)

Well my young lady did suggest a wind turbine, but I shall say no more on that subject ....
