Bongo Fury

I have just fitted the tow bar to my 2001 bongo which wasn't too bad, but now have the electrics to tackle. I have attached the single electrics plate to the tow bar and fed the pre-wired cable through the floor to the inside of the bongo, but not sure where to go from there! Which bit of plastic are all the (6 or 7) wires hidden under for the various lights. I have the sort of connectors that just clip on to the existing wires to make a connection, so once I find the wires, hopefully rest should be fairly straightforward.

Also, is a 7 way bypass relay required? It was for my 2003 BMW 3 series, but not sure if the Bongo needs one or not?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Don't bother using Scotchlocks they are effing useless things that just store up problems for the future.

Some tw@ using them in the past has just cost me £38 to get the leisure battery charging circuit on a motorhome sorted out.

Take advantage of my costly experience, dump them and join the wires properly.

All you need is what is supplied with the single socket electric kit.

Run the cable from the prewired socket to the nearside rear light cluster and
connect to the wires by stripping 25 mm of insulation from the existing wires
and then wrap and solder the socket cables to them. As scanner says, do not
use the useless skotchlocks.

You will need to run a 2 core cable to the offside light cluster to pick up the
offside flasher signal and the rear foglight. You may have been supplied with
an indicator relay and bleeper which lets you know when the trailer indicators
are flashing, if you want to fit this then you may need to remove the nearside
panel over the wheel arches to fit these parts as there may not be enough
room in the light cluster housing.

I need to do this also, have the towbar ready to fit, but feel i need a wiring diagram for the cable colours to splice into.

I have done my electrics now. Took about an hour and a half - not too bad a job at all (even soldering the joints rather than using scotchlocks!). Thanks for the advice.

HeskinBongo - I found the colours for each of the lights were as follows:

Left Indicator - Green/Yellow
Right Indicator - Green/Yellow
Left Tail Light - Red/Green
Right Tail Light - Red/Green
Brake - Green
Reversing Light - Red/Yellow (but only on twin electrics)

Fog light will be obvious as it is a retro fit on the bumper away from other lights.
