Strange heat on drivers side!

Hi,

Last 2 times out in the Bongo (fairly short journeys around town) I've noticed quite a lot of heat radiating from under the drivers seat towards the door and had to stick the air con on.
If I stick my hand down there the plastic on the lower seat is very warm to touch as is that part of the door.

I know it's been pretty warm recently but I've never noticed this in the 2 years.
Coolant level is fine but had a new radiator fitted in the spring.

Local garage are taking a look next week but thought I see if any of you folks had any ideas?

Cheers

Clummzie

Is the enginecover under the seat clamped down tightly? the clamps stretch out a bit sometimes & need to be bent back a bit to tighten them up.

Yeah, all seems OK as I lifted up the seat to see what was down there trying to identify the source.

I think your engine is probably about to melt

Mine gets warm down there as well, I just thought it was a Japanese design function to help keep the noodles warm when on a journey.

yeah we just returned from the northerners do at windermere, coming over the Dunmail Raise my backside was about on fire and it was nothing to do with the curry the night before! Mine throws heat too just usually when the engine is working hard, havent had any problems as of yet and keeping fingers crossed!

I've fitted a scavenger fan over-ride switch so that hopefully I can flush hot air out of the engine bay when I fancy and not just when the ECU fancies it. Some concern has been expressed over the risk to the ECU of doing this but its not blown mine up....yet!

I use the switch briefly now and then but have had v. little hot weather (and traffic jams, just to stir the pot) to really try it out in to date

The warmth from that lump is a boon though on winter day outings as the interior stays warm much better than yer average car when parked up for a picnic.

Hehe, sounds like I'm unecessarily concerned!
It's like having a small child sometimes except I'd never raise my voice to the Bongo :)

Clummzie, are you sure that the scavenger fan is working? Next time you work the bongo hard and end up with a hot rear end, pop either of the seats up and have a look at the scavenger fan, which is at an angle in front of the engine. It should be running if it's hot in the engine compartment, and should even come on when the van is parked, key out, if it's hot enough.

Cheers, will check this weekend before I take into the garage on Monday.
