Bongo Fury

Our leisure battery has a 30A fuse attached to it and it is blowing frequently - every few weeks as opposed to every time it's used.

I haven't got a clue electrically, but is there anything fairly simple I should be checking?

What type of Split Charging relay do you have installed? I had the same problem with the split charging relay my converter installed when I first got my bongo. Dandywarhol had a look at this system for me and advised me to bin it and relace it with one of Willinton's Inteligent Split Charging Wiring Loom. No problems since the Willinton loom was installed and that was over 18 months ago.

Could be all sorts of things that could be causing the fuse to blow????

Do you have a split charge relay that connected to the alternator or is it an VSR relay?, which fuse is it?, what is it for?, does it only blow when the ignition is turned on?ect ect.......

If its the inline fuse inbetween the starting battery and the leisure battery? which is quite common fault with converters , then i would imagine that your leisure battery is going flat (totally) then when the ignition is turned on its trying to draw too much current through the fuse thus causing it to blow. Easy fix put a bigger fuse in to cope with the amps trying to be drawn.

Type of system - no idea. It was done by the garage we bought it from. I can change fuses, and even wire up a plug, but that's where my electrical knowledge stops.

The inline one between batteries sounds about right, although the Bongo is regularly used so I would have thought that the battery should be charged up.

I know this is difficult to diagnose from my comments, but I've not noticed any sort of pattern to it blowing, and I only notice it's gone when the central locking stops working. Any suggestions of things to check are welcome.

Take your battery to a garage, (motaworld or similar) and ask for a battery check ,this is usually free. if the battery gets too low it will blow the fuse as its trying to get more power. if battery OK, charge it up first then reconnect to the split charge .

Sounds like a duff battery or current drain, if the central locking stops working that means the voltage from the battery has dropped too low, which as rightly pointed out by others, means it's blowing the fuse as it's trying to whack too many amps into it.
My split charge system from Willinton has 70 amp fuses & I think a 100 amp modfied volatge sensing relay.

Our leisure battery is about 2 1/2 yrs old now, and as the vehicle is used almost daily, it will have had lots of short charging cycles.

Is it time to replace it, or perhaps just try a fuse bigger than the 30a it came with?

The battery is an M-Tec Leisurepower which says 85 CCA on it, if that means anything. If I'm buying a new one, how many amp hours should I go for? It's only to power lights etc, and occasionally a Playstation.

DONT put a bigger fuse in, you might just melt the wiring, it may be rated for max 30amp.
