Getting old and how not to change the oil.

I ran the motor nice and warm. :D

Undid the drain plug, missed the container, covered in oil. All up my arm and over the drive, I was amazed

Motto, don't forget the pela pump on the shelf in the garage. :(. If you have not bought a pump buy one and use it

Or...work out which way the oil will "spurt" and put the container in the right place.

Nah,

The best thing to do is use a Pella, then spill it all over the place when emptying it ...

Yup - did that, and still missed the pan. Come on Haydn, you're a bloke - you know how it is

Next time Alice, get a Pela (as the old Mazda advert used to say). I did, and now my sump plug is rusted on

....that's why my garage will be doing my next change.
That's also why the wildlife population has decreased in my street. Surprised the GMTV Newscopter didn't make an appearance! :)

But seriously, get a Pela and do it yourself. It is the easiest peeziest job you could imagine and as well as eliminating 'missed the pan' episodes (and I don't care what anyone says, sump plug removal is liable to result in some oil on the drive for most of us average types) you no longer have the (OK maybe minor) cost of a garage but you don't have the hassle of taking time off and taking it in, leaving it, picking it up etc.

I once did an oil change outside my dads house on a land rover, i guess they hold a similar amount of oil. I did it on them drive up ramp things then jacked up the back so it was level. being a clever so and so I refilled it whilst still up in the air, so I didnt forget to do that later. Then I let the back down and reversed off the ramps. Thats when I remembered the oil container. All good things come to those who wait.....
