Mazda 626 speedo replacement

Hi

I have previously read about speedo replacements & that a Mazda 626 would be a direct fit.

I saw this on ebay

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MAZDA-626-INSTRUM ... 240%3A1318

but it has a digital odometer!

Can someone confirm if the whole dash swaps out or is the 626 an older version.

Please help if you can.

Cheers

Jim

no it wont fit

that 626 is from the wrong build and so will not convert
no 626 dash is a straight swap it blows the fuses

What you need is a normal speedo from a 96ish 626 although the whole dash will fit in the gap you need to remove the speedo and screen plastic and swap them with the bongo ones

Rob

thanks for that.

By 'normal' do you mean mechanical rather than digital odometer?

Do you know the years range or is it just a '96?

Please advise (if you can).

Cheers

Jim

Hi Jim--i've just replaced mine with a 626 speedo--but i looked for the numbers on the front of the dial-which are GA5R & this is a direct fit apart from i had to enlarge the hole where the trip stem came out

Or you can do what I did and let the trip reset thing enlarge the hole itself! Doh! #-o

Still it's better than the ridiculously twitchy chipped speedo I had before!

As stated above the ga5r speedo is the correct one which has real dials not lcd digital and the reason for the plastic screen is because you need the hole for the trip button/arm/thing a bit bigger with the new speedo.

Why not just switch the one from your Bongo speedo over to the 626 one, I think it's only 1 maybe 2 screws #-o
