my bongo has developed an awful screech when accelerating, it sounds just like a belt slipping but a mechanic replaced the belts & the screech is still there, he said it could be the manifold where the exhaust meets, but I am not that confident in his abilities....has anyone come across this problem before?

Sounds like a stud in your manifold has snapped. Have you searched under snapped stud?

No 1 manifold stud...The only you can see without dismantling. Just above and right of the Alternator..Easy fix by any half decent Mechanic..About 1-2 hours work. No need to remove anything...just remove the broken stud or perhaps drill out and helicoil.

Well, I am sure that mine's a bit different here. This photo shows a nice shiny silver engine with an arrow sticking out the side. When looking at the one I have, it's a nasty dull black with a murky grey hue.
