Just want to know what is the rpm reads when the speedometer reads 100kmph?

Depends which model you are asking about diesel or petrol manual or auto and tyre/wheel size?

For my diesel auto running on 215/60-16s it's 2400rpm.

Surely speedo drive is taking off the gearbox somewhere rather than an actual measure of speed, so you could have buttons instead of wheels travelling at 5mph but the speedo will still read 60mph for example so tyre size is immaterial?

Yeah I would say on the diesel auto it's just under 2.5k revs.

Errr what?

It's is the size of the wheel and thus the number of rotations per mile/km that tells the gearbox how far it has travelled and thus how far (Miles/Kms) and how far in how long (MPH/KmPH) can be displayed on the speedo.

How else can distance travelled be measured?

(in lockup) the engine is a direct drive to the gearbox which in turn reads the output shaft speed of the 'box - therefore as Veero says, you could have buttons or tractor tyres fitted - the speedo would still read the same as it should but the actual speed will be wrong.

So the engine rpm and speedo reading wil be linear (in 4th gear lockup)

I didn't quite get the point Veero was making there............

I had answered on the basis of doing a true 100kph, not an "indicated" 100kph - but take the point that the relationship is fixed at the gearbox, so the indicated 100kph doesn't need to be a true 100kph - in fact the back wheels needn't even be on the ground (or even on, if the back axle is jacked up) for 100kph to equal 2400rpm..

You are both quite correct, wheel/tyre size only affects speedo/odometer accuracy, not indicated kph/mph per 1000rpm - which on a diesel auto Bongo in lock-up top gear would appear to be 26mph/1000rpm.

Aye... Mine is about 2400 rpm (maybe a fraction less) at 60.

The RPM on my Bongo also reads 2400 on 100kmph.
My Bongo is 2.5diesel 2wd auto with stock rim 15in
