Fuel Gauge

I have recently had an issue with the fuel gauge in the Bongo.
It was playing up for a couple of days and then decided to drop down to empty and stop working.
I searched on this site and found a few suggestions about cleaning the sender unit and replacing the earth wire.
I have done this but now the gauge has shot up from showing empty to showing full, however I know that there is under half a tank in it.
Any ideas as it is driving me nuts!! :?

Thanks. :)

Some kind of short circuit in the area where you were working so that +ve is now connecting to earth without going via the sender unit? I'm no leccy so hope thats not rubbish! :?

Yea I would say you need to repeat what you did and this time make a second earth connection,(I did) this will probably cure it, I just drilled another hole, sanded it to bare metal and used a self tapper to which I attached the second earth wire, not had any problems since, good luck.

which wire did you tap into. if you used the one thats green (if i remember correct) and not the black one then it will go straight up to full as you have created a circuit. the one black is the earth tag one. it looks like it should be the other wire as this is the one that looks to connect to the top of the cover but thats the one that goes to the fuel sender. the unit appears to be glued to the top cover and works loose.
i recently did di and jamies bongo and we just cleaned up one of the screws on the plate and tagged a new earth onto that.
did you check the resistance of the fuel sender. at empty it reads around 120 then at full it reads 40.that way you will know the senders working correctly.
if that dosnt help then it looks like you have another earth issue with the wiring from the guage to the tank.
would be rare if this was the case. fingers crossed for you
