Bongo Fury

My Bongo has a high pitched noise on idling - I would describe it as 'HeeHeeHeeHeeHee'

Its not really loud, but is noticeable. I can hear it when I'm moving slowly or idling but not when running at road speed (maybe drowned out by the regular engine noise).

Sounds vaguely like it is coming from the passenger side of the engine but haven't had a proper look for it yet.

Perhaps a belt or a pump?

As I am a total noob when it comes to mechanics, thought I'd ask if anyone had any suggestions.

As an aside - can anyone recommend a good Bongo specialist in central Scotland - MOT is due in April and I'd like it given the once-over by a practiced eye.

could be a drive belt ,does it increase when u load up the electrics? I work at ford/mazda dealer never had 1 in but since I bought mine we've had a few enquiries.

Flip up the passenger seat & stick yer ear around No 1 manifold stud when its ticking over.

Thats my guess.

Can't say the noise changes when the electrics are on.

Wouldn't the noise get louder accelerating if it was the manifold stud?

If it is, is it a straightforward repair for a competent mechanic (i.e. not me!)

if it's the manifold thats at fault ,then it's normaly a straight forward repair .something similar that happens to the ford ranger wth the wl-t engine fitted.

Will take a look tomorrow (if it ever stops raining here in Cumbernauld)

If it's the stud, I'll get one from the Bongo shop and take it down the garage.

Give the fan belt a light squirt of WD40 whilst it's spinning...

Mine was making a HoHoHo noise - then I realised it was Santa bringing some pressies............

When my stud went it first of just make a noise from cold. Once the engine/manifold warmed up it sealed up again. After a short period of time it got worst, untill this one time when I "booted it" and the noise was unbelievable, so then decided to get it fixed then.

Or....I'll be driving past your town on my way down, and on way home on Tuesday sometime if suits?

Had a look at the manifold studs and they seemed to be intact certainly the No 1 stud is still there and the others that I could see looked intact.

Strangely - with the passenger side engine compartment open, the noise wasn't so noticeable.

Did notice however that on the pump? below the alternater, I seem to only have one of the long bolts on the top

The end where the bolt head was is still shiny, so I assume it was taken off fairly recently!!

Will continue to chase after the 'HeHeHeHe' noise but, for some reason this morning, I don't seem to notice it. Being in IT I'm well aware of the problems that only present themselves when they're not being looked for!!

Did you not get a years MOT with your van?I seem to remember you bought it on Feb.2009,from Campers Scotland.

No, I got six months tax and warranty but the MOT is up in May.

Just trying to establish if there is a problem before I go back but, to be honest, stuff like a missing bolt I'd rather just get another one and replace it than take the time to drive 20 miles, wait about etc etc.

Saying that, the guys are coming to fit my new kitchen tonight so I'll just give them a call.

Alternator or aircon pulley bearings. Spray some oil on them whilst running (mind the rotating belts) and if the cause then the noise should go away for a while but won't cure it.

Its looks like you have a adj bolt missing,this might be causing the belt to run out of line,thus causing your noise.

Check your under tray for missing bolt.
