Bongo Fury

Delighted with our new Bongo - however..... the radio looks like the original Japanese & we can only get a cople of stations as it stops at 90 fm. Is putting a new radio in easy? For example could we buy one at Halfords & get them to fit it or does it need Bongo know-how?

As mentioned in earlier posts you can fit a new radio its simple to do it youself as I have done you you will need a loom adapter with an ISO connector see my posts and photos, on each end of your Jap radio are two thin plastic covers that hide the holes that you need to insert two u shaped pieces of wire ( use an old metal coat hanger) to release the radio then pull it out and unplug the aerial and other plugs simple. newbie.

I picked up my first Bongo on Thursday evening and fitted a new stereo today. No word of a lie, I drove to Argos bought a stereo and then whilst my fiancee was in Next I fitted it! I should say that I already had the appropriate multi-socket connectors (I got these off the guy I bought the van from but Im sure someone will tell you what they are).

You'll need to get the old stereo out. With a small flat head screw driver prize the front sides of the stereo off and you'll find two pairs of holes which you'll need a special stereo remover gadget to get the stereo out. I actually went into my local Autofactors and asked if I could borrow some to do it (they're only a couple of quid anyhow but I was feeling tight!!)

If you dont fancy doing it yourself you could always go to Halfords buy a stereo and get them to fit it for £25!

you can buy an radio expander (ebay, cheaper than a new stereo) that you just plug into the back of the stereo in the aerial hole then you plug your originol aerial into that, which then lets you pick up other uk radio station other than radio 4 or which ever one you can pick up.

only downside is that the radio stations arnt where they should be...........ect radion 1 around here should be 98.6 but with that it would be something like 70. (this is just an example but you get the jist)

shouldnt tell you this but a trade tip is to use split pins or 1/8 drill bits if you havent got the tools for the job...

or a peice of welding wire or a cut down bit of a metal coat hanger bent over into a u section

failing that a jimmy bar and sledge hammer does, just like they do in car parks!

I find that a sharp bit of string with a Hole in it Does the Trick

A guy suggested i dropped a yorkie bar from 142.6 cm onto a boots cotton bud,the indentation left, (when wedged into one's ear) created a volcanastic reverberation into the lower cerebral vortex,which culminates into a metamorphosis of dense matter surrounding Ursa major. The imbalance of said dense matter affects time & space,fooling the radio aperture into thinking that the correct tool is being used for the extraction of said aural entertainment module... It didn't work, but the bloke did enjoy watching me drop choccy bars onto earwax pokers...

Thanks for all the replies, the amusing as well as the practical. I think I asked the wrong question as I didn't think for a minute that I could change a radio, just wanted to know if anybody who could change a radio could change a Bongo radio. Bloke at Halford did it quickly. Cost £35. Thanks to you I know now exactly how little he did for the money too!!

He probably also had to supply a conversion lead, which is damned expensive in Halfords, so it's not too bad if you're not sure what to do
