2 Wheel drive Conversion

Hi all,
I have read the info on the guy who has converted from 4 to 2wd, has anyone else done this or had experience trying, our bongo has front diff issues and is only used on shortish runs and around town. I was wondering what the viscous coupling will do or is there a centre diff?

Harry did this conversion. He had a specialy made uprated propshaft that he kept when he broke his Bongo.
Worth giving him a pm and depending on where you are using this part.

Just remove the front propshaft.
If the problems in the front diff you might still have a problem when turning corners - so it might be worth looking into getting a couple of 2WD front suspension struts and taking the diff and driveshafts out altogether.
Still glad I chose a 2WD

Why not remove the shafts machine off the drive shaft at the upright end and refit. That takes out the diff and driveshafts without the expense of new struts?

Following a series of shattered propshaft bearings on my 4WD, probably due to the viscous coupling starting to go, I eventually had the front propshaft removed (easy job) and blanked off to prevent the ingress of muck through the holes left in the front diff and central transfer box.
I replaced the rear propshaft with a heavy duty custom built one adapted from a land rover propshaft as I did not consider the rear propshaft on its own would be reliable considering the big loads and high milage I was doing on a daily basis.
No probs whatsoever after.
My bongo has now been scrapped following a cracked cylinder head rendering it beyond economical repair but I still have the 'custom built' propshaft which is available to anyone on this forum who wants it for the price of postage plus a donation towards my getanotherbongo fund.

Yep - would work - or dismantle the splined outer of the driveshaft and remove the CV joint from it and refit the splined bit.
