Bongo Fury

Hi All,

Today my fan heater has packed up with the following fault.

AC off all fan speeds dont work
AC On speeds 1,2,3 work but speed 4 dosn't and switches of AC.

Anyone have any ideas

Sounds like the fan resistor may be on its way out, there is a factsheet that covers this in the members area, it should be repairable, if not they're available in the bongo shop or any of the parts suppliers advertising on the Home page of this site.
Have you got the manual controls or the digital climate control?
It's worth checking the fan under the bonnet to see if it's starting to give problems, remove the intake scoop & (with fan switched off) stick your hand in & spin the fan, if there's any resistance, it's probably got wet & needs whipping out cleaning & freeing up - there's another factsheet that helps with this, cheaper than a new one, especially if your not sure it's the problem. If you do take it out, enlarge the hole in the plastic casing that's probably blocked preventing any moisture escaping.
Is the drain in the middle of the windscreen blocked? this can cause run off in the wrong places that won't be helping.

Don't think the resistors are at fault in this case as i have the lower speeds with the AC on.
But i would like to know where the resistors are as im feeling the fault could lay in this area.

Can anyone tell me where the following are located.

1..The resistors for heater fan speed control.
2..The relay that i can hear engaging when i switch the AC on.

From here i start some diagnosis of this problem

The fan speed resistors are under the bonnet, roughly under the drain at the bottom of the middle of the windscreen, More info in the fact sheets in the members area.

Password was updated on the 6th of feb, if you didn't receive it, email Ian, there seem to have been a few gone astray this month.
Good luck getting it sorted, I guess it may even just be a contact on one of the plug has got oxidised or something

Fixed it....

Removed resistor array and there are 5 soldered conections near the heatsink, 2 of these solder joints had broken.
Re-soldered and all is now fine.
The two joints that had broken look to be connected to a shorting bar or a common of some kind.

Nice one , still be worth checking out the fan as I said in the first post, I reckon it could be the fan having to work harder that draws more current that causes the problem. It does seem to have been connected with some of the problems reported on here in the past.

I had the same problem a few weeks ago. Definitely worth checking the fan. The fan is a cylindrical type affair, mounted vertically so that one of the bearings is right at the bottom where it collects all the crap and moisture. Mine was stiff when I first tried it and although it freed relatively easily it was a lot better after being cleaned and greased. If you leave it you may have the same problem again - although the fan may be turning it struggles more than it should and so draws more current. This causes the resistor to overheat and so melts the solder on the joint.

There is a fact sheet on how to strip down and service the heater fan. It's very easy to follow and quite an easy job - only took me about three hours to do the whole lot, resistor and all.

Will look at the fan soon.

Looked at fan today and was very stiff.
stripped and cleaned now a lot better, also made drain hole bigger.
Easyest fan motor i've ever removed.
