Bongo Fury

Right, gradually ironing out the gremlins with my new Bongo. I have had a search but none of the results quite answered my query.

The interior strip light and the rear corner light do not illuminate when you open the tailgate or the slide door. They do come on when you open bith the front doors. Also the interior lights do not turn on with the switch on the factory fitted kitchen either, although all other functions do work perfectly.

The dashboard door open warning light comes on when you open the slide door but the interior light does not. The dashboard warning light does not come on when you open the tailgate. By this I am assuming the interior light trigger and open door warning light triggers are independent?

I found and dismantled the slide door light switch. Continuity tested it to the chassis and it was getting good earth. There was however NO 12v feed to the wire connected to the switch unlike to the working passenger door switch. Access to the interior side panel where the wire leads is limited due to the factory kitchen.

So how can I find out why no 12v feed is going to the slide door ligh switch?

Where is the tailgate light switch located? I noticed someone said in the handle but how do you gain access to it?

Sounds like you will have to spend some time with a volt meter and just keep working back...Not easy to really to be helpful at "long range"...just trial and error.

It sounds like your bongo has been re-wired differently for some strange reason, can your converter not shed any light? (pun not intended, sorry)

It hasn't been converted, it's got the factory Mazda kitchen unit in. I suspect the lack of 12v feed to the switch is just a dry joint somewhere but I don't know where the wire goes once inside the shell or where to start looking.

you probably have done this but, fuse number 1 is for the interior lights have you checked that it is working. (side of the steering wheel near your right knee)
but it does sound like its been rewired maybe to a leisure battery.

Sorry, I know the first post was an essay but I did say the interior lights work in the "on" position, and when the drivers and passenger doors are opened when the light are switched to "door". So they work, just not with opening the tailgate or slide door.

Are the pin switches in situ?

ok ,im confused now, my strip light and rear door light do not come on when i open the front doors, they only come on when i open the side door for the strip light and the rear door only operates the rear light. i dont think what you have is normal.
the front doors should only operate the cabin light at the front.

Oh I see. FrankenBongo maybe... Sounds like something to do with the factory kitchenette then. But the leisure battery is charged and works the other things, just not the interior lights.

The pin switch on the slide door is present but has no live feed. When you open the slide door the dash "door open" light comes on which I guess is sensed on the 4/5 retracting pins on the door jam.

No idea where the switch is in the tailgate or how you get to it.

i think the tailgate switch is something like a mercury switch or motion sensor switch, its in the lock i think but never seen it.
i have my interior lights connected to my leisure battery.

Somebody has been tinkering somewhere...determining where and what they have done is another matter entirely... I sense a lot of panel removals and many multi-meter tests imminent!

Ahhhh crap.

Anyone near Gloucester fancy having a ganders and maybe assisting some route tracing?

Can the dealer who sold it to you help in any way? Not sure what terms you bought it under but you'd think he might have an auto electrician on his books

For the Factory Kitchen, the normal situation is that the front courtesy lights come on with the front doors open. For the mid/rear interior lights to come on the green switch on the kitchen unit must be on. With the side door open the mid interior light then comes on & with the tailgate open the rear light comes on. If yours come on when the front doors are opened & the switches on the lights themselves are set to "door", then someone has definitely rewired something somewhere. Maybe they've been wired into the front door opening circuit & the side/rear door switches effectively bypassed? I'm pretty certain that my side door does not activate the "door open" warning light.
