Bongo Fury

Considering the current driving conditions throughout most of the UK, the Lake district has got off fairly lightly...at least at low level.

However, if you are thinking of coming up here for a weekend's walking please think again.

The conditions above about 200ft above sea level are best described as arctic and certainly the coldest/snowiest we've had for about 15 years.

I'm involved with 2 Mountain Rescue Teams in South Lakeland and for the past week we've been out virtually non stop helping/searching for fell walkers and low level walkers and assisting the ambulance service with folks suffering mainly from lower leg injuries from slips and falls.

We've also had to deal with 2 fatalities in the last 24 hours.

You can't lose Snowdonia...its down the M6...turn right on the A5 and after about sixty miles its those big lumps of rock that you pass between before you get to the Irish ferry.
