Bongo Fury

Hi all, I need help! The rear diff on my 1996 diesel auto Bongo has broken up so i have removed the rear prop shaft thinking that I can run it as a front wheel drive only saving the cost of replacing the diff. Now i have problems...the gears do not work correctly now & it will rev high & not change up. Is there ratio/sensors fitted that are now confused ? Can a Bongo be converted to front wheel drive or must i replace the diff or rear axle complete ? Does anyone know where I can get a second hand rear diff or rear axle ?
