Internal aerial - a possibility?

Hi All

Has anyone any electrical nouse about radio aerials? I've got a converted Bongo that's had the aerial removed in order to fit the new roof. So there isn't anywhere to attach a new aerial and I'm loath to drill a hole in my lovely new Bongo! So, I was thinking to run a length of wire connected to the existing "chopped off" end of the aerial and around the inside of my new roof, which is of course GRP. Would I be right in thinking that this would work because there would be no interference that you would normally get from having an aerial inside the pressed steel body work of a vehicle?

Any elecy advice would be great!

Yes you can add a "wire" aerial if you like, just connect a length of wire about 20" long to the inner of the existing coaxial cable (the outer screen is earth just insulate that back with some tape). How you will fit that in the GRP roof I've no idea because unless you have some strange roof the normal older AFT's hinge from the rear and the newer ones hinge from the front - but sounds like you have something different if its been added to a TinTop :?:

Now there's an idea. Hhhmmm. Thanks for that. I'll have to see what I can rig up when I get the new stereo.

Hi Geoff
Great. Thanks for the info. I thought that it would be relatively simple like that. I've got one of these new so-called mushroom roofs from JAL (which is pretty good by the way and loads bigger than the original AFT) and there is space around the inside of the inner roof where I can easily run the aformentioned wire. So hopefully this should be good.
Thanks everso for the advice. Mucho appreciated.

Hi Mal
Thanks for the info. That sounds a bit more expensive than my bit-of-wire-that-I-attach-to-the-old-arial! Think I'll try my wire first........
