Tailgate knock?

It seems the tailgate knocks over every bump on my Freda...even though I've adjusted the catch & side locators. I thought it was the exhaust..but it wasn't. I've also changed the drop links & rear roll bar bushes & brackets.
Anyone got any ides how to cure it?...or is it a common problem?

Thanks

Bongo bus,
I think if you search someone had a similar problem and it turned out to be missing or worn rubber stops around the door.

There should be two pretty big* rubber stops, one each side of the tailgate. These hold the door away from the body slightly against the catch. If they are missing I imagine the door will clatter against the body.

*they are certainly longer than on most vehicles

Hi BB, you tried (on a quiet bumpy road)leaving your tail gate up and see if you still get the same knock.
Ps dont run it that way for too long as you will get exhaust fumes entering the vehicle.
:D :D

Cheers Malc..

Or have someone sit in the back holding it to "feel" where the knocking's coming from.

Hi bongo bus, if the big rubber stops are still in place, and the tailgate still clatters, add an additional "buffer" at the striking point on the tailgate, you will know if you have gone too far with it as the tailgate will only close on the first "click" not the second.

Do you have a conversion fitted into your bongo?

one other thing to try , is your spare wheel tight underneath, and not bouncing about on the cable.

We had the same problem.

The main catch on the chassis can be adjusted by undoing two bolts hidden by the plastic facia. Get inside the vehicle and wobble the boot around to establish if the latch needs to pull the boot closer into body, or be pushed out to fully engage the latch mechanism. Easy to do.
