Full Respray/rear arch rust

Hello,
i am currently thinking about gettting a respray (White) and getting the rear arches rust free. I have been quoted around 1200 for the lot. This sounds cheap?
Has anyone had a rull respray and arches done before?
Anyone know of a bongo friendly garage in the Hereford/worcester area?
Your help would be much appreciated
Many thanks
Alex

Not had it done, but I agree £1200 sounds very low if they do a proper job on the arches - they should really be cut out and good ones welded in. I think you are looking at approx £300-£350 per side.

Snatch his hand off!... Might be an idea to look at another car he's sprayed in the past

Respray's are usually one of those things where you get what you pay for....

I doubt that's included at that price, more likely a plastic padding patch up that lasts 6 months. But you never know ...

It does seem really cheap. Think ill go back tomorrow and make sure exactly what im getting.
The place is a bespoke body repair shop. My mate had his TVR resprayed and that was great.
Thanks

I wonder then if it would be worth getting the rust removal / metalwork done by a bodyshop / welding specialist before taking the Bongo to the respray specialist. Pay a bit more overall but improves chances of the respray being done over sound bodywork repairs maybe

It's just possible that if they don't have much work on at the moment, and you are having a respray in the same colour (so the door shuts don't need repainting) Then maybe.... I'd have thought it would have been nearer the £1500 mark though.
Regarding the rusty arches, try to find out EXACTLY how they are going to remedy the issue, if they say they'll grind out the rust, kurust it,fill then paint, then you'll be going back next winter to have the arches done again i'm afraid....
The rust on the arches starts on the inside and works it's way out you see?

nick skidmore wrote:I've just had a full respray, roof and lower half in silver and mid section black.
Both arches done by opening spot welds, replacing any metal as neccessary, seam sealer, beat back to shape and waxoyled internally.
Front bumper off, bottom of x-member replaced, splash panels replaced, front area rust treated, etched, stonechipped painted.
Rear bumper off and repaired.
Side door replaced, new one fettled and painted.
Sills taken back to bare metal, treated for rust, etched, stone chipped, waxoyled internally
Loads of paint and 5 coats of laquer.
It looks superb.
£1200 cash as a fill in job, took nearly 4 weeks, can supply details of bodyshop which is in Cannock, Staffs. if required
Be very carefull when buying arches off breaking vehicles, the ones I got looked perfect but were as bad as the rough ones when cut up, rust gets in as inner / outer seam does not have enough spot welding.
A superb post there Nick
It'd be really good to have this guy on the recommended suppliers list, not least cos he's in range for me when I might need good service. Sounds like he knows his stuff

Surely you're gonna post a piccy of your freshly painted bongo nick?

Mine goes into the bodyshop this monday for a few touch-ups...No rust on mine luckily, just the odd scuff that's been niggling me.
