Problem with willinton relay kit i think?

I think my leisure battery is not being charged.

I measured the LB voltage and got 8.5 volts so put it on charge using a optimate charger. left the battery on charge for a few days and and measured nearly 13 volts.

I put the battery back in the bongo and started the engine and got 14.2 volts across the main battery but only 12.8 volts across the LB, is this correct?

Also when i put the battery back I did not hear the relay switch, after a few days of using the van the relay started to switch but kept switching, this stop after a min or so. The problem is that the relay was still switching when i turned the bongo off.

Turn the ignition on and turned the radio off then turned the ignition off and the relay stopped switching.....

This may of happened before because when i left the bongo to have the diesel pump fixed the garage rung me to tell me the bongo was completely dead.

Any ideas to what wrong? :?

With the relay switched (ie engine running) you should get the same voltage across both batteries. It sounds like its not switching. First I would check all the fuses and connections, but drop martin an email- he will sort it out I am sure.

Mine did the same. I called the manufacturer as it was just over 12months old. The sent out another next day delivery. The contacts had green around them. Scared me I must admit.

Get in touch with Martin, he'll sort you out if there's an issue, be worth checking both batteries are holding charge ok if you've only just noticed in the cold weather, if the LB got down to 8.5v it won't have done it any favours & check all the connections are tight & fuses are ok.

Check you've got a good earth at the relay. I had one of the early ones continually switching whenever the LB voltage was low and it finally gave up the ghost in high temperatures. Martin replaced it without question.

The symtoms for our failing unit was first start of the day, loud crackle noise from around the glove box area. Then nothing all day. Then it progressed to clicking on the drive which was quite alarming as it sounded like an electrical sparky noise.

Our Bongo was parked and had not been used for a few days. I found the paperwork of the installer who was none too helpful and decided to call the manufacturer. Whilst on the phone I stood next to the Bongo and he heard the noise. His reply was, " Oh it shouldn't be doing that". "Have you had a fridge plugged into the 12v socket?". "Nope", I replied. "I have one but never used it yet". He agreed that he would send out another to arrive the next day. Once it was removed the contacts were as I mentioned earlier green. New model fitted the next day no probs.
