looked on the fact sheet about code reading, to me the picture isn't a hundred percent clear which pin sockets need to be bridged. can someone please confirm which they are before i go and stick some wires in!!!...
also, i take it by the shape of the plug that it's not OBD II compatable???

You're right - its not OBD compliant - pins are "TAT" terminal to ground for automatics and "TEN" terminal for manuals. This should set the HOLD light into a sequence of flashes as per the factsheet.
Fault codes can be erased by using the footbrake

From the factsheet............dunno which one you're reading...........

I guess thats why the brake lights work independantly from the ignition
Automatic vehicles:
Remove the wire from the negative terminals for at least 20 seconds.
Click on the brake pedal and release.
Re-connect negative battery terminal.
Start engine, and run for 3 minutes at 2,000 rpm idle.
Check all fault codes have cleared.
From the workshop manual for manual gearbox vehicles:
Keep turning the idle (I think they mean ign.) switch ON and OFF for more than 5 seconds while short circuiting the test terminal and delete the memory of the service code.
