V6 Oil change

Having had my V6 since May and doing a goodly mileage, I thought I had better change the oil and filters. I found the air filter easily enough but where oh where is the oil filter located, the replacement one is small so I am looking for a small thing but it is not visible from the top. Is it a bottom cover off job?
Also, checking the dipsticks, the engine oil looks great but the one under the drivers seat is dry. ATF i'll bet! Not wanting to get too involved, I think I shall top it up but could someone tell me where the fluid goes in, I could not see anything obvious near the dipstick.
Thanks in anticipation,
Cheers,
Tim

hi,
i have a v6 and can, just, reach the oil filter from underneath on the passenger side.you sort of have to reach through just over the plastic under tray from rearwards.
i hope that helps?
thanks

Hi,
The oil filter is on the passenger side, easiest to reach from underneath, you can just do it without removing the lower engine cover. It's quite small and can get quite tight so I found the best tool to remove it is a metal strap removal tool from Halfords, fits in the limited space.
It takes 4.5 litres with a new filter.
The dipstick under the drivers seat is for the ATF fluid in the auto box. Remember this has to be checked with the engine fully warm, on a level surface, with the engine running and in gear to get an accurate reading.
Flippa on this forum sells the filters if you need a good contact.
Use a good 15W40 engine oil, any thinner and it's tappety on startup.

If you don't know when the gearbox/diff oil were last changed, I'd get both done then you know where you are. I think the official timescales are 100k KM, maybe wrong there but that rings a bell.
If you have an LSD then there should be a yellow sticker on the casing, if not you can tell by rotating a rear wheel when both are off the ground. If the other wheel moves in the same direction you have an LSD, if not then you don't. The diff oil for LSD is different from the normal diff. I don't have the manual where I am so I can't tell you right now what the oil types should be.
The only oil filter I know that fits is either genuine mazda, or blueprint ones from flippa.

I have just received the latest newsletter and my query regarding oil filter location was on the Bongo Clinic page.
Bursting with pride here!
Anyway back to business. A couple of tips and observations:-
When I changed the oil filter I decided to remove the engine cover. With a small powered screwdriver and a 10mm socket, it whizzed off in no time. I had previously run the bongo up on ramps and I found that a 5 litre paint can was a nice fit underneath to support the cover while undoing the bolts.
I am glad I did take the cover off because a big splash of oil was released when I removed the filter and it would have messed up the cover, then the drive, making me think I had a leak if it had been in position. The splash might have been because the Bongo was on ramps but these things are always worth mentioning. I had to buy new ramps but the cost was about the same as an oil change, so I will be in pocket next time.
That's it, back to the beer

Glad you are sorted tim, how is the silky smooth bongo in general?
I'm in the flushing stage of replacing the ATF fluid at the moment,I plumped for Castrol TQ D3 (Dexron3).
Please be aware (as posted above) That there is a discrepancy of a good inch in the reading of the level of fluid depending on how you determine the actual level in the box... I use the "In drive, brake on method" as recommended to me by an auto gearbox specialist tim.
.........................................
Has anybody actually got an LSD fitted in their diff? Mine had the sticker, but the diff is the open type, front and rear.
Thankfully (after 5 years of not checking), Both mine were brimmed, and crystal clean!

Not in mine

4 1/2 ltr with filter, there are 2 diff size filters apparently

i have been offered both one is smaller but mine is the slightly larger one

5ltr takes mine over the full mark i know cause i had to drain it off the first time i did it

done it 4/5 times now always 4 1/2ltr, spose it could depend on wether you do your oil on a level surface or slightly sloped or jacked up in one corner

any of the wiser fellows shed any light

The manual says 5ltr for filter and oil change, when i did mine there was a bit left in a 5ltr container but not 1/2ltr, i put it down to all the oil not coming out it was only a small filter blue print i think.
