Hi, some time ago i saw a message about cleaning headlights and now can't find it, tried putting in 'cleaning headlights' in clinic but nothing was found. can someone please help

I was doing this just last night. I used a 'T Cut' style polish on a lint free cloth and then a finer grain polish to remove the yellow tinge.

From what I've read, Bongos can be fitted with a film, designed to cut down the glare. This can yellow over time, but can be polished off with a bit of elbow grease and T Cut.

My lights look a bit clearer now.

I also plan to fit some brighter bulbs (H4 type) that I purchased in Lidl (£4).

Hi Bongo Wench, there is loads of info on the forum here, try doing the search using the search button top right and use the word and between each search word try different combinations too, ie dim and headlights etc.

I used this on mine .........Plast-RX Clear Plastic Cleaner & Polish you can get it from Halfords , it makes a big difference and with uprated bulbs as suggested..............

I also used some finish dishwasher liquid. leave for a while and rinse off. just use a cloth and maybe some rubber gloves to protect your hands.

I think any very mild abrasive polishing compound may remove the film, i seem to recall someone even using metal polish with some degree of success!

I'd steer clear of vim, or the rough side of a dishwashing sponge though!

Have you ever noticed how rear lights can dull due to the swirls left by repeated automatic car washes? I have even revitalised lamps in that condition in the past by mopping with a medium to fine grade G3 compound,you do have to be careful though, and is only really recommended if you are experienced with the mopping technique,each lamp can be returned to "new" within 5 or 6 seconds!

BDC how dare you post such filth!!

Only way to clean is by hand. You'll take £'000s off the value of a Merc by puting it through a car wash, and never really get those swirls out of the lacquer.

Auto car washes are for lazy people. Hand washing is actually good exercise for mind and body.

I used an automatic car wash just the once in my youth keefy, i learnt that lesson VERY quickly!

I meant OTHER cars with dulled swirly lights....

Yea but no but, who says you can't get fit at the car wash?

...but seriously, Keefys quite right. I've often thought how therapeutic for mind and body washing your beloved (car) by hand is.
