on off heater thingy

Hi all,
Need help again please [-o< I haven't been in Freda for a couple of weeks now, but Jimmy says the fan/heater thing is turning off and on, but when it's off it comes on again when he goes over a bump. The heater fan resister has been changed 3 times now and the last time we had the fan cleaned ,dismantled and it was moving freely. also hole in bottom of fan casing. I think unless I can get this sorted, the resister will go again!!! Any advice or anyone had the same problem, I would be very grateful for advice.

Cheers Anna

If you mean that the heater fan, when switched to "off", comes on when you drive over a bump, then could be a dodgy switch? or a short somewhere else in the circuit? I'd try removing the switch assembly & giving it a good clean with contact cleaner as a first step. That's if you have a manual heater control version. I'm not sure what the Climate Control set-up involves. I'm sure that others of a more electrical mind will be along shortly with more expert help though....

Sounds more like a connection type problem, check the connector to the fan speed resistor & the connection to the motor, give them a scrape with a small screwdriver & make sure they are making positive contact.

Never thought of electrics, but fairly possible as we have had new switches put in for fogs/spots. I guess they could have moved something. Thanks for that :D

Thanks Kirsty,
I really didn't even think of electric contacts. It sounds that way though. I will get someone to check and do as you suggested. You're rarely wrong :)

Cheers Anna :)

Also check the connector (red & black wires) at the front of the fan casing. This is the feed to the motor & is also exposed to the elements. Worth unplugging & re-plugging a few times to dislodge any oxidation on the contacts. I wouldn't have thought it was the resistor pack. The one I repaired had definitely 'pinged' apart & would not make any connection

That's the one I meant Simon  & the connector to the fan speed resistor rather than the resistor itself, if it's not making contact properly, especially if it's been in & out a few times.

Just wiggle everything to be on the safe side :D

Thanks again guys :D I think I have all that noted now and will get it all checked.

Read the original question again & see that I mis-understood about the switch being off. Agree with the others that a poor connection somewhere down the line is the likely cause.

Hi Rhod,
No it was me #-o Jimmy switched it on= nothing . left it on although not working, but it came on when he went over speed bumps and then off again, etc etc. Anyway I told him to leave it off as it might blow the resister again. Sorry for the confusion.
Anyway, Jimmy has wiggled everything (wires I mean) and still no luck, so I will get someone to check out all the connections as suggested. Thanks for your help.

Cheers Anna
