hi all,

just a quick query or 2:

while poking about under the bonnet trying to diagnose my glow plug issue (see previous post) i noticed that recent rainfall had collected in a small pond along the sill at the back of the bonnet opening (near the windscreen wipers). it was dripping down in a couple of places: onto the battery tray (drivers side) and in the middle near the main fusebox. does anyone else find this after rain? im all for waterfeatures but im not sure about dripping onto the engine! how did you get rid of it (if you did)

also, my bongo came without a jack, does anyone know what spec of jack is required? im presuming something a little more heavy duty than a standard car jack due to the extra weight. also is there supposed to be a tool for removing the spare wheel when required?

In the centre of this tray there is bleed hole connected to a pipe that exits "somewhere".

Try disconnecting the pipe and blowing through it to see if it's blocked.

If not then the hole in the tray will be blocked, and can now be easily cleared.

Try not to clear the obstruction with the pipe still connected - you could force the blockage into the pipe.

You will find there is a drain hole under that water,clear it with a stick and always keep it clear.

The blocking of the drainage hole in the engine bay is a common problem as you will find if you use the search facility. It is essential to keep it clear to prevent the engine electrics from getting damp. I use a long piece of electical wiring to poke it clear, you should see the wire comming out underneath the Bongo.

not sure about the jack specification - someone will be along soon with that -

but your water works - you are right to worry about that - it has been known to damage the heater system.
There is a drain in the middle of the sill that gets blocked - it has a small plastic pipe that directs the water down past the sensitive parts. You need a small screwdriver or similar to clear this drain on a regular basis.

thanks guys, much appreciated, i didnt realise there was a drain hole, it was clogged at the entrance, its not now! my heater has recently packed up, the motor has anyway (i can feel hot air coming out especially when moving but the fan doesnt work to blow it out) so this could have been caused by the blockage? bummer!

do you know whether the motor for the rear heater is the same as the front? i dont use the rear as i have converted so i could swap them possibly.

It's probably the resistor gone - do a search for resistor and you'll come up with loads of info on repairing them. You may need to strip the heater fan/motor and clean it up. The resistor
goes when the fan doesn't turn easily.
Any 2 tonne scissor jack, from an accessory shop, is adequate for the Bongo.

No the rear fan is different to the front, if thew drain hole is blocked then the rain water will overflow onto the fan, then the bearing rust's and seizes, easilly fixed, just strip the motor at the back free the bearing in the caseing ands re grease it, when the motor seizes the resistor generally always blows not long after because of the strain on the solder because the fan motor has seized. again easilly repairable do a search there is tons of threads on this very subject.

Have u checked your hatch on the side of the sliding door step to see if your jack and spare wheel lever is there neatly packed. Might be worth checking to see if you have a skinny spare or full size.

Even if you find your jack. It's worth carrying an aerosol for real emergencies.
