Bongo Fury

Hi

When I park and turn off the engine I can hear air escaping from under the chassis, basically sounds like a tyre deflating - however they are all fine, lasts about 20 to 30 seconds. Any ideas? I'm still under warranty but would like to go back to dealer prearmed with some info.

Hmmmm - strange one. Leaky aircon system? No idea really. Hope others may be along to help soon

Sounds like your may may have a slight leak in one of your hoses, have you checked your expansion tank coolant level ?

The same hissing sound was the first clue when I first had a water leak in one of my Bongo's hoses.

Have a look under your passenger seat and drivers seat when you first hear it again.

Well I wondered about that (perhaps should have said) but then thought wouldn't they have had another sign, like an engine boiling over due to lack of coolant, or a pool of liquid underneath the Bongo? But now that you've posted this as a possibility, I'd have to say it must go to the top of the list as it needs to fixed before you lose coolant and potentially wreck the engine. So, Good call

Another thought is that there may be a problem with the vacuum pump system. This is located near the power steering pump on the drivers side. There is a pipe that runs up the front of the engine by the cambelt cover & another one that goes off to the brake servo under the bonnet. Maybe there is a leak in there which is sucking air in & the noise you can here is the pressure equalising. If you left both seats & can identify which side of the engine the noise is coming from, then you'll have a better idea where the problem is.

A final (less likely) suggestion is that the van is fitted with air-assisted suspension. There are at least 2 owners I know of who have this fitted, so it's not impossible that yours has it too.

It was a fractured hose, in garage getting fixed but not ready until Monday due to getting parts from Mazda...grrr, thanks for the spot on advice

Good news. Strongly recommend fitting a low coolant alarm as insurance against a recurrence. Not much to pay for peace of mind. Good luck and happy Bongoing. Well done Eat Aunt who ID'd it.
