Bongo Fury

Hi There - I was wondering if anybody has had a problem like this.
The warning beep to say our roof was still up just carried on even though it was totally down.
To avoid going insane I disconnected the beeping device in the driver's footwell.
This stopped the beeping in the front of the Bongo but there's still a quieter but equally
annoying beep coming from somewhere in the back (near the rear driver's side wheel I think).

Please help as I'm getting fed up with driving around with the stereo turned up full to drown out the sound.

Starting with the blatantly obvious, it could be your top isn't completely down. Mine, from time to time shows the same symptoms, it's just a bit stubborn getting the last few millimeters down although it looks shut, its not quite there.

Usually a brief lift then shut again gets it to lock in.

Heres hoping its something as simple as that!!

Yeah, I was hoping it would be something like that as I'm pretty hopeless mechanically
but I've tried that quite a few times now and the beeping just keeps going.
I'm pretty sure its more to do with the circuit rather then the roof mechanism.
I've had a look around the top when the roof is up and can see no obvious places
to fiddle with the beeper circuitry.
Its frustrating as everything appears to be working perfectly.

Scratching my head on this one Bramble - Fairly certain a similar problem has popped up (so to speak) before but can't find it in the searches.

Someone in the know will no doubt pick up on it soon enough & help I'm sure.

Isn't there a micro switch on the drivers side which the roof "switches" as it lowers ???

the beeper for the roof is located above the drivers side rear wheel as far as I can remember. This normally ends up being the micro switch mentioned earlier

Yeah mine is the same there must be a small repeater in the roof on the drivers side, it's very low so not a prob

Hi Bramble, you'll probably find that the roof isn't locking down properly, i'd look into that issue, then the silencing of the beeper should naturally follow...

Just disconnecting the beeper may be masking another problem with the roof locking into place, i wouldn't want to be driving behind you when the wind takes the freetop off!

Try a bit of WD40 on your roof microswitch and a bit of j.j.j.j.jiggling it worked for me.

Thanks for your help guys - it finally turned out to be the micro switch on the passenger side and I was able to stop the beeps by tweaking it.Still not perfect but at least I know what's causing it.

Sometimes a quick twiddle is all that's needed... A partial success!
