smoking bongo

Can any one tell me why my bongo starts up with a cloud of white smoke. The bongo is not always driven every day and some times when it starts it is a bit lumpy for 30 seconds or so but then it runs perfectly well otherwise and i have no problems with overheating or such like.
Please can someone advise.

one or more of your glowplugs isn't working? Loads of info in techie section, I think Dandywarhol posted resitance values so you can check them in situ.

Pardon for poking my nose in here but, would weak glowplugs not result in unburnt fuel/black smoke - not white?

Unburnt fuel gives white smoke.

how long would a set of glowplugs normally last. I have owned the bongo for 4 years and had the changed the glowplugs changed about two years ago. The mileage i do is less than 6000 a year.

Depending on what brand you put in, they could last as little as a few months, do a search on glowplugs, lots of examples on here. The consensus seems to be the NKG plugs are the ones to go for in terms of quality & longevity.

If I could think of one improvement to recommend above everything else I've tinkered with on the Bongo , it's changing to NGK plugs. They are streets ahead in terms of reliability/consistency. Definitely money well invested. I can't be clearer than that

The original plugs seem to last over ten years!
