Bongo Fury

I am working through my problems one by one and now its time to tackle the drivers window...since last winter when i foolishly tried to put the drivers window down before it had fully defrosted, it dragged and now it is as if it is worked on a belt drive system and it is slipping,i would love to fix this as it seems to be getting worse,then its just the pump seals/power stearing seals and no"1 stud and we"ll be laughing......thanks for any advise offered... ps search done but nothing appertaining to my problem...

might be just a quick fix of silicon lubricant needed spraying in the runners, thats all mine needed when it started to struggle .

If you carefully pop out the window switch, a squirt or 3 of that lubricant (using the tubey extension bit that always gets lost) on the workings (making sure the window's up at the time may save you having to take off the door panel & fight with the infamous black goo .
If you do go down the route of taking off the door panel (easy enough to do), don't peel off the plastic film underneath, cut it so as to minimise your chance of black gooeyness & stick it back with a bit off gaffer tape.

job done,a squirt of white grease and there you have it...i removed the dreaded black goo when i did the door loom.....

For what it's worth, I've peeled mine back several times (the plastic, dear, the plastic) with no ill efect. The trick is to use a knife to slice the goo stuff as it starts to stretch so one bead stays on the plastic, the other on the door. Easy peezy once you've sussed it.

I don't like the idea of cutting the plastic in case the plastic is there as a moisture barrier and perforating / removing it might have a long term consequence. I've found gaffer tape only lasts a season or two before the adhesive gives up.

Wher exactly did you spray the white grease? Same problem on mine & lubricating the runners hasn't made much difference...

I may be in the same boat here. Drivers side window has a definate slow spot after dropping an inch or so, slows for another 2 inches then slips down smoothly the rest of the way. Its getting progressively stickier of late.

Would a spot of grease sort me too d'ya think?

Here's a weird one. When I managed to (as far as I can tell - its been fine for many weeks now) sort my window switch by mixing parts from a bust one NeilT gave me (thanks+++ Neil) with parts from my own, and stripping down and cleaning up dirty contacts, not only did the switch then work reliably but it seemed to me that the windows became less sluggish in operation. Its as thought the poor electical connection first reduces poser getting through and then, ultimately, makes operation altogether unreliable (although even then it was weird as the switch wouldn't respond but you knew if you tried again a minute later it would).

I did exactly what dave said,use the little tube and let it run down the channel,i sprayed the top runner as well also today i saw my Japanese engineer friend and he gave me some switch cleaner so i wipped out the switch and blasted that aswell,its like new now.....
