How do you reprogram a remote control plipper?

I've already got a fully functioning remote control for my central locking, and the plipper looks like this:
I've just got another one, identical, from ebay, but I haven't got a clue how to program it the same as the working one. Is it possible, and if so, anyone know how? Thanks

hi,
i found one of these in my glove box when i got the bongo 9 months ago.i always believed that my bongo didn`t have remote locking, but i tried a new battery in the fob that i found, but nothing happened.i didn`t really think that it was the correct fob,but i`ve just seen your pic,and it looks identical to the one i found in the glove box.i remember from other cars that there is a procedure to follow to teach the car the identity of the fob,or vice versa, and i believe that there`s also a way of`cloning`fobs by putting them in teach mode,or something.unfortunately i don`t know how to do this, and i`d be very interested in what people have to say.
thanks
jamie

IF these remotes are anything like Vauxhall ones (and I've no idea if they are), then there is a world of difference between 're-programming' your existing one after, say, changing the battery and trying to reprogram one from a completely different car.
For example, if you don't swap the battery quickly enough on the Vauxhall fob, all you have to do to 'reset' the fob is to follow a simple sequence involving inserting the key into the ignition slot, and pressing the 'lock' button for a few seconds (or something like that!)
However, if you obtain an identical fob from a different Vauxhall car, you CANNOT simply set it to work on your car like this - it needs to be completely reprogrammed by Vauxhall or by some other specialist at a cost of around £40-80 I think. The chip inside needs to be set to your vehicle - you may even need the security pass code that came with the car when new.
I would expect the Mazda remote to be just as sophisticated as the Vauxhall one, but obviously I can't be sure.
Have you tried phoning, say, Bell Hill Garage or another expert knowledge source?

Crikey! I thought the writer was 'avin a laff when I first read it. I think the neighbours will start complaining if I went outside and go through the dance of opening and closing the doors right now. I'll give it a try in the morning, though.

Just found the destructions for programming my non mazda retro fit central locking, may help (or not), quoted verbatim, don't blame me for the translation
"Press the learning switch in the main unit, the siren will chirp 3 times & then keep sound & the lights will flash 3 times & then keep on.
The system enters into the learning mode now.
Press any key of the remote control within 3 seconds, the lights will flash 3 times & keep on, indicating the reote has been learnt up.
It can be learnt up to 4 remote controls for every main unit inthe same time. If the remote control is lost, the old code is valid & need to recode again."

I don't know whether this is an earlier Mazda remote, but it is totally different to the original Mazda one we have which is built into the key.
The other remote is for the cat5 alarm immobiliser and works the locks, too, but was fitted in the UK.

Gave it a try, but no luck

Methinks I'll need to do a bit more research. Not even sure if these are an aftermarket fitting.

Is there any markings to give a model number or make?

Taken it apart, and there is a make and model on the sticker showing the battery fitting. Naldec 1117A (or the second 1 could be an I [eye] ). Quick google shows some possibilities. I'll sit down and have a surf....
