Help - Erratic AutoBox

My Bongo autobox is doing some strange things and I have searched the forum and I can't find the same issues being reported.
Has anyone ever encountered the following and just so you are aware this does not happen at the same time in a journey (ie not from cold or after any particular journey length i.e. no consistency at all).
For example today I drove 160 miles (IKEA shopping with the wife) the first 150 miles were problem free. In the final 10 miles I had cause to stop at traffic lights. On accelerating away from the lights the Autobox would not change into 2nd. With revs at about 3500 and with the engine straining I resorted to the following;
I pressed the HOLD button. Now I know the hold button is supposed to drop down a gear and it does work like this normally in my Bongo when the Autobox is behaving.
However in this instance the Autobox then changes up a gear rather violently and then starts to behave its self and changing gear when it should do.
Anybody had a similar problem or can give me a clue as what may be causing this problem.
Oh... Just remembered I've only had two HOLD light flashing moments and not had one for a couple of months.
Cheers

Have you checked the level and condition of the auto oil?
and have you done a diagnostic code read thingy with the hold light by shorting out the box in the passenger well?

Plenty of stuff worth a search on here. Experts will be along soon but one simple thing that can cuase problems involves the chip fitted to convert speedo from kph to mph. Since the speedo is involved in advising the gearbox on what to do, problems with speedo can = problems with geabox. Has yours been chipped?
Another one that gets mentioned is the solenoid pack on the autobox. More expensive to fix but still not a complete diasaster, if you get me.
You may need / want to have an autobox specialist look at it unless it is something simple like the speedo (I think there are one or two other simple scenarios too but can't remember what they are).
I think there is an autbox specialist in the Portsmouth Area. See recommended Garages in Members Area (presume you are a member) or have a search.
Good luck - keep us posted.
Mike

Hi, Oil level and condition of oil is perfect I have already checked that one.
As far as the diagnostic code goes does it hold codes even if the Hold light has not been flashing. The vehicle has been used daily and the hold light has not flashed for about a month.

Worth checking, I think it records faults even if the hold light does not flash and put you in "get me home mode"
it costs nothing to check

I'll give it a try and see what the Bongo thinks! It's probably just as confused as me!!

Hi, how often does this occur as it sounds exactly what mine does. interesting that you press the hold button. I will try pulling over & see if that sorts it.
Have u sought any expert advice on why this may occur? I am keen to try and solve the problem as the wife mainly uses the Bongo as a baby transporter.
Cheers

The ECU stores faults even if the hold light doesn't show a fault.
Mine behaved exactly the same way - the fault code indicated a Throttle Position Sensor fault - on top of the pump marked 466. A new one made mine behave perfectly.
Got it from these guys
