Not 100% sure ,but i think its a summer/winter lever for the amount of air into the system,
so open for summer, partially closed for winter.

what difference would the air make Dave in winter or summer? intersting ..
would it affect the cooling or just the heating for the inside?

Cabte, If the lever is for the purpose Dave thinks,

Ahhh! Takes me back to the days of my old Brit cars, that liked to have a blanket on the rad grille or else silver foil partially covering the rad in cold weather.

I wonder if this Bongo is a cold weather (N Japan) vaariety, with the twin starter batteries etc.?

Either way, must check mine when I get home 8)

Hi,

From the manual that lever is summer/winter but for the air intake into the heating system, not the engine air in-take.

I think that when it's forward (i.e. to the front of the car that is summer, and pushed back towards the windscreen is winter).

That lever is controlled by one of the sliders on your heating/air con controls. The models that have the electronic auto climate control do not have it fitted.
It controls the amount of air that the fan can draw by deflecting excess air away

Well, thats a load of tosh Haydn  - it's a manual control for some Northern Japan Bongos to direct warmer air into the interior heating system.

I'm ever so sorry...Had a Bongo round a couple of weeks ago and we spotted that lever (mine is the climate version so just has the spindle and no lever. Between us we made it work by moving one of the sliders on the control (don't know which one as I had my head under the bonnet) we watched the "flap inside the trunking move and both agreed that what I posted was what was happening.
Again sorry for the Tosh.
My Bongo is from the north.

It's only manual on the ones I've worked on Haydn - nothing attached to it as the pic shows - it's a manual winter/summer lever to direct the incoming air.

Hope your Bongo isn't from the North West - people will be laughing........
