Can anyone tell me if the rear interior light tube has a starter as most fluorescent tubes have, or is it built in?

...and they can be got much cheaper (standard tube) from a camping shop I'm told (but too late!) than buying a 'Mazda Bongo Interior Light Tube'.

I bought one on Saturday from Go Outdoors - £2.70. The old tube was still working, but hardly any light. After reading an old thread about the tubes I decided to try a new one. Couldn't believe the difference it made.

The interior light in my 1998 Bongo is still dim even after changing the tube when lit off the battery (much brighter when lit off the mains via a hookup). Due to the fact that the plastic cover has clouded with age. I would replace it with a new cover if I could find one.

I managed to fix the light. There are 4 contacts the tube snaps into, one of these was not making proper contact,so the tube did not fully come on.I just squeezed them together and snapped the tube in.

Job done.
Thanks for all your input.
