Brown PlasticBox Cliped to Back of Front Grill - What is it?

My 2.5 petrol Bongo has a brown plastic box about 6in x 4in clipped to the back of the front grill. It is very amaturishly connected to the battery terminals, but there is no sign of a switch or connection elsewhere.
My guess is a Japanese garage door opener. Am I right and it is something I can safely remove or is this something vital I should know about and not toutch.
Suggestions please, preferably printable.
Thanks
Mary

I have yet to see anything attached to the front grill - If as you say it looks like it has been poorly attached to the battery remove the connections and just check nothing stops working - then remove the box.
