Bongo Fury

I think I need a new back box on our Bongo, it is a north Japan Bongo with the winter pack and I know that some of the exhaust bit a different, however is the plain old back box the same? Would this do?

the best advice i could give is contact the seller as they are a parts specialist and tell them you have a winter pack and they should be able to let you know

Hi I have same Bongo and my exhaust (back and middle) went I bought my replacments from the same firm next day at the door fitted like a glove no probs buy with confidence

I can't recall the details but was it the front section that was the problem with the ebay supplied exhuasts as the length was different? Something like that I think

That was right Mike -it was a different length - about 1.5 inches too short and the flange of the original front pipe was different angle to the replacement centre box - I found this out when I tried to replace the whole exhaust. Was a pain to get get around but it can be done.

Thought so and thanks for jumping in and providing the detail (never my strong point). But I guess back box is same for all models? Middle section too?

I would be careful about buying from that particular supplier I had loads of problems when I bought an exhaust from them. First they did not post the whole exhaust out and I ended up going and picking it up myslef. Then the one they supplied did not fit. I had loads of agro getting a refund but you might be lucky. Ended up paying a bit more and got mine from AVA leisure. Ordered it and it was on the car within 24 hours.

I had the opposite experience with Iezura - I ordered middle and rear sections, both arrived next day and local depot had them fitted in about an hour for £20.

So all backboxes are the same regardless of winter pack option or not? I'd have thought do as the shutter/flap is situated near the flexi section. (i think, KK can you confirm this)?

Just picked up on this post Ste - yes the back box is the same on winter / non winter systems - the problem is the front pipe length and the angle of the flange which is different to the replacement middle box. Just for the record my van is a 95 Freda 4wd.

Cheers Ian, do you know where the shutter/flap thingy is located? (on a winterpack equipped bongo like yours) Downpipe or centre section? I don't think it's actually on the manifold is it?

The valve is situated in the front pipe about halfway down between the turbo and the joint to the middle section - it is welded into the pipe so it cannot be removed and on closer inspection mine was showing signs of leaking.

I bought from these guys, Excellent item no problems.

A couple of questions from me. Bongo passed MoT last week with an advisory on a small exhaust leak. Exhaust has now broken in two.

Our van has the winter pack. The exhaust appears to be in four sections, a short downpipe, a front section with some gubbins attached to it, presumably to do with the winter pack, a middle section with a flexi on it and the back box section.

The pipe has broken at the rear of the front section, just by the flange as it attaches to the flexi section. I've ordered a full system from Iezura which is a 4-piece system but presumably not for the winter pack option.

Will the whole system fit and I just don't have the winter bit?

What is the gubbins attached to the horizontal part of the front pipe, and can this be discarded, and what is it connected to?

Bongo sounds like a V8 at the moment but I don't think the plods will be impressed
