Some nice shots there, looks like you had some "un-Lake District" weather
Any shots of the latest camp set-up?

Ah, the one in my sig - quite a few people have asked this. It's
Gordale Scar campsite, right by the Gordale Scar waterfall. The facilities aren't great but the setting is lovely. We went at the beginning of May this year, the Mayday holiday weekend. Here's the original pic.....
....and one from the other angle to show that there were actually some other people on the campsite

Great pics Hatris, esp the ones of the lake, how did you go with your new 'bling' on the bongo?
Muz did that rabble follow you to Gorsdale after you took the first one? They must have liked the bongo

No, the shot with us on our own was later, after some of them had bogged off.

We were only there the one night, Muzette didn't want to come camping at all, but after she'd been playing in the river she wanted to stay the whole weekend

That sounds like the sort of thing we would do

Nice photos Trish

,glad the weather held off, no where better than the lake district in good weather for good scenery
Manners, nice photos also, reminds me of a time.........
Me and a few mates were on a walk in the peaks once, shorts,t shirts, back pack full of tinnies and we got to the top of a hill and we watched as a black line from the sky dowm to the floor as far as the eye could see heading towards us and after about 10 minutes, it reached us, hail stone about the size of old 5 pence coins.
i have never laughed as much in a long time, me and and 2 of my mates was lucky and legged it and ducked at the side of some big rocks, but one of my mates got caught in it,(he cant run properly as his ankle is all messed up due to a climbing accident

it went from a warm sunny day into a pure white covered landscape in 2 minutes, whilst he was crouched down with his backpack over his head trying to block the hailstones from hitting him..........i am chuckleing now thinking of him crouched down in the hail screaming every time he got hit whilst we all were laughing

......the good times

Its a Ricoh Caplio R7, bit annoyed about the pics as i had the settings set for 640 vga

instead of 8mp

serves me right for being lazy and not taking the SLR.

chageable weather can be amazing.
Years ago I was hiking (and camping) in Sinai. It was about 45 degrees c and we had stopped in a sort of valley for lunch, taking shelter in the side of the rock.
From nowhere it started to rain. The locals looked terrified as apparently they hadn't seen rain like that as it hadn't done it for about 40 years in that valley.
The valley filled up and made a huge pool and everyone went swimming.
The sad thing was that when I got home my camera film was blank. I had no evidence of the incredible afternoon.

Manners loved your pics. You must be a bit fitter than us. We are not up to conditions like that any more.
Hotpot loving the omnistor, cuts down setting up time considerably, not really sorted the whole set up yet, but working on it.
Wayne loved your story you always make me laugh.

Hi Mobilecat - interesting to hear your ref to Sinai. Whilst doing National Service in the early 50s we made an expedition from the Suez Canal to St Catherine's monastery. I think there are now proper roads, at that time it was a rough ride in an army truck across the desert and through the valleys - somewhere I have pics of the 'Rock in Horeb' and the monastery and the top of Gebel Musa. I recall lying on my back looking at the night sky with no city lights for hundreds of miles - absolutely staggering and a marvel.
