Help,can anyone tell me if I CAN USE THE 110V CABLE which came with the van to take 240v?.can you please tell me the wire colour code ie negative ,earth and positive.Thank you.( I will get there in the end)

I can't make any claims to be an electrician, but I think that the answer would be "No". You'd obviously have to replace the transformer in the kitchen cube with a 240V one & replace the associated wiring up to 240V spec. I don't know if the connection plug/socket between the external 100V cable & the Bongo itself would take 240V, but imagine that it might not. Not really worth the risk I'd think - 240V is nasty stuff when it gets loose

I doubt very much 110 and 240 cable are the same .so dont think it would be safe.

Generally with cables and connections it is the current (amps) that is the problem, rather than the volts. A 240 volt appliance would draw less current than a similar 110 volt one so cable size and connectors would not be a problem, but I have no idea what colour codes the Japanese system uses. It is quite possible that it will not comply with British regs.

the colour of the cables are there to warn people of the expected voltage , yellow is normally for 110v and blue is for 240v the grade of the cable is probably 1000v so theoreticaly the cable is able to carry the higher voltage but you should stick to the universal colour coding. the cores are now coded + possative=brown used to be red. and - negative=blue. used to be black. earth=yellow/green, hope this helps..Sparky.

Simple answer don't do it, I am a time served electrician and feel that if you need to ask these kind of questions, get some one else to do the work for you, electricity should not be played with, .25 (1 quarter) of an amp can kill.

Ok nuff said on that.

On reading this post back it sounds a little harsh, it is not meant that way.

Indeed, it can be significantly less that that depending on the route through your body to earth

BTW the Japanese mains wiring is the same as the American - Live is Black, Neutral is White and Earth is Green. Be VERY careful not to confuse the colour coding of the Live.... I wouldn't mess if you're not 100% sure what you're doing

I'll second what Welsh Winger says there. Electricity can be very dangerous if you are unsure of what you are doing.

I have learnt something there Dave, I have never come across either American or Japanese colour coding. Black for live and white for neutral, that could certainly cause some confusion!
