Bongo Fury

hi all,
i have the `tappetty`v6 and will be whipping the rocker covers off shortly.before i actually remove the camshafts to inspect the hydraulic tappets,is it worth removing the covers then drenching the area around/above the tappets/lifters in hydraulic lifter treatment or duck oil/wd40?i thought maybe some would seep down and soak into any sticking lifters?(it was standing 10 months before i bought it.)i hoped that might just free up any sticking noisy ones before i strip it all down(i`m scared without a manual!!!!)

I'm no expert in this area, but I can't see it hurting, worth trying ACF 50 (Google search), and probably need to do an oil change after whatever you pour into the engine, but this has to be easier/cheaper than a complete top end strip.

Jamie i would be tempted to use wyns engine oil treatment as it lubricates the engine for 1/4 million miles

i would try this before taking bongo apart as it may quiet en the engine down
and if it doesnt then it will stay in your engine and stop any metal on metal rubbing
any good motor factor stocks it But its around £25 the last time i used it

To be honest, if you've done quite a few miles since you got it, and given it a bit of a thrash, it's unlikely that anything will release any sticky tappets now

Whilst its harsh reality I agree with francophile - magic potions and additives rarely work (except to catch the customer willing to grasp at a cheap remedy) - unfortunately its way past time to get the spanners and wallet out and do what you expected when you bought it .
At least it hasnt siezed up on you whilst putting off the inevitable and you still should have a relatively cheap bongo once its fixed.

This is normally a simple problem, the hydraulic tappets can't pump up because the orfice is restricted. Strip and clean them, refit in the same position that they came from.
