Waxoyl Again What Colour?!!

Post by M 80NGD » Thu Sep 25, 2008 3:08 pm

Can anybody tell me if they've done their own waxoyling, and if so,what colour did you use? I know there's clear and black, but I would like to know if you can actually see the clear waxoyl being applied! :? I would like to have it done professionally but funds aren't available at the mo! :( How much do think I will need etc, thanks in advance,Lee. :) :)

Did mine with black, so I could see where it went. A 5 litre can just about did it, but what a mucky job it is :(
It'd be dead easy if you had a very understanding friend, with access to a ramp or pit

Hi
either colour is O.K. i used Waxoyl underseal with added waxoyl aerosol for the underside in aerosol for convenience (Black), and on the inside edges of the wheelarches, Brush on waxoyl underseal with added waxoyl for the areas directly in line with the wheels, and aerosol on the outer edges....and brush an extra bit round the wheelarch lips. I used a compressor with ordinary waxoyl and spray lance behind panels, in the chassis cavities, and under the bonnet (black) For cavities etc....1 gallon, maybe more, and 2-3 pots brush on and I can't remember how many aerosols.
Any more help, just ask.
Cheers
Helen

And the black stuff they use is called 'Dinitrol' and it hardens tougher than ordinary waxoyl so resists abrasion from road grit etc. More expensive but loads better (and it doesn't crack and let moisture behind it like underseal does)and doesn't need redoing every year in abrasion prone areas.

...or so I'm told 8)

I've just had ours done with some black stuff. A&S Services in Caerphilly did it for us for a very reasonable £60 (including the removal of huge amounts of hardened dirt!).

Apparently, it's best to jet wash the dirt off properly, let it dry then do the waxoil.

Check out your local motor factor for waxoyl and dinatrol - they often do cash sales to the public - can be much cheaper tham Halfords
Origo bio stove - no Bongo!

Yep, that's what i did before i had mine done. I gave it a good going over with the jetwash (use overalls!,and a bag to put the wet overalls into)

I then left mine to dry for a good week last summer before a couple of gallons of black waxoil was applied by my local garage.
