Bongo Fury

Hi, I get a smell of burning after towing my caravan (small, well within weight limit for towing by van) and even driving hard eg uphill or fast on motorway. The smell is within the cabin and comes from the centre console area and is usually accompanied by the transmission cooling fans ?? coming on. The cooling system itself doesnt seem to overheat, the needle stays at 11 o clock etc. I have had the trans fluid changed, engine oil, filters etc but no difference. This has happened on 2 different Bongos - both 2.5 TD 4x4 1997 models. The latest one has had a new rad (for diff reasons). IS THIS NORMAL ?? IS THERE ANYTHING THAT CAN BE DONE ABOUT IT ? IS THERE A POWER UPGRADE FOR THE 2.5TD ENGINE ? Many thanks in anticipation .........

Unless you have fitted one of the Mason Alarms that modify the temperature gauge to actually give a true reading, your temp gauge will always stick at 11o'clock until well after your head gasket has blown.

DO NOT rely on it.
